8 Years of Commitment to Help Coffee Farmers
Java Kirana started as a Pro Bono project which aims to bridge the gap between the needs of coffee farmers and roasters/baristas, by developing a
Post Harvest Processing Standard Operation Procedures and Direct Fair Trade initiatives.
We strive to bring the best to both upstream and downstream, by connecting the dots, to make sure that everyone gets what they need.
For Farmers, they want a fair price and direct trade.
For Roasters and Baristas, they want consistency, quality, and quantity.
Java Kirana's Milestones
Developed the Demonstration Plot
Java Kirana owned and developed ~10 Hectares of land, planted with different coffee plant varieties and grown with different organic fertilizers and cultivation methods for the sake of finding the best methods to grow coffee.
Increased 20% of the Farmers' Productivity
Java Kirana successfully applied and implemented the Good Agricultural Practice for coffee to their farmers. Using the right method and systems, all of our farmers enjoyed an increment in productivity, bringing higher revenue to each farmers.
Partnered with
~100 Farmers
Java Kirana have sourced, engaged, and helped around
100 farmers from 4 different farmer groups and communities in Bogor and Garut, West Java.
Covering around 150 Hectares of smallholder coffee plantations, most of them are members of the Perhutanan Sosial Program.
Java Kirana's Future Commitment
Java Kirana has committed to help more farmers in the future, by developing strategic partnerships with several other farmers' cooperatives, farmer groups, and communities from Southern Sumatra and West Java in order to amplify our
Environmental, Social, and Business Impact.
We are committed to help the farmers increase their productivity, which are one of the most concerning problem that the farmers faced. By having higher productivity, both ends of the industries will benefit from the stability in price.
We will also tackle the rising cost of production and product inconsistency
by developing technology enabled coffee processing centers,
and by maintaining and implementing Java Kirana's SOPs
in order to ensure three important variables:
1. Fair Compensation for the Farmers
2. Higher Margin and lower risk for the Business, and
3. Consistency in Price, Quantity, and Quality for the Buyers.
Last but not least, we are committed to increase the biodiversity factor by encouraging intercropping, adapting the Permaculture Principles.
Allowing the farmers and the environment to gain benefits from organic farming and alternative revenue stream provided by the adoption of the principle.
